treated groundwater to untreated soil, and testing the groundwater over time to document
this reduction.
A detailed work plan for the oxidant injection benchscale study, provided by PRIMA, is
presented in Appendix B. The water quality objectives, maximum contaminant levels, and
laboratory detection limits are presented in Table 2.
2.2 OXIDANT INJECTION PILOT TESTS
The proposed oxidant injection pilot tests will be performed only if the benchscale study
indicates that this technology can address the hydrocarbon-impacted without degrading
groundwater quality and only with regulatory approval and the necessary permits. The oxidant
injection pilot tests will consist of the tests listed below. These tests, which will be conducted
using ozone and hydrogen peroxide, are:
• Ozone sparging radius of influence test
• Liquid injection test
r
• Liquid radius of influence test
• Vertical mixing
The ozone sparging radius of influence test will be conducted to assess how ozone can be
distributed in the subsurface. The liquid injection test will be conducted to determine the rate at
which a liquid oxidant (hydrogen peroxide) can be introduced into the saturated zone. The liquid
radius of influence test will be conducted to assess how hydrogen peroxide will be distributed in
the subsurface. The vertical mixing test will be conducted on a pair of the stainless steel
injection points to provide information regarding the vertical mixing of a liquid and gas injected
into the subsurface at different depths.
3. REPORTING AND SCHEDULE
ETIC anticipates completing the benchscale study in 2004, pending approval from the SJCEHD.
A report of the benchscale study findings will be submitted to the SJCEHD within 90 days of the
completion of the work and will, if appropriate, include details concerning the proposed oxidant
injection pilot tests.
GT"ws\73942NASi \N' l2texO.dm 3
