PHS/EHD has the following comments for your
consideration.
Please note that pursuant to the Business and Professions Code: Chapter 12.5 Geologists
and Geophysicists, all geological reports or documents shall be prepared by a registered
geologist or subordinate employee and signed or sealed. Neither the report nor the
included boring logs were signed or stamped with the seal of a registered geologist. An
amended report or addendum should be submitted, if indeed the report was prepared under
the supervision of a registered geologist.
The report included the results of the soil and groundwater investigation that was
undertaken to determine the extent of soil and/or groundwater contamination remaining
after the 1995 over-excavation. Five soil borings were drilled and sampled, one of which
was subsequently converted into monitoring well, MW 1 . Ten soil samples were submitted
from the borings for chemical analysis. Two monitoring events occurred on August 10,
1996 and October 8, 1996, during which depth to water measurements and groundwater
samples were collected.
Groundwater contaminants were not detected in the groundwater samples collected and
the depth to water ranged from 31.05 feet (July 1996) to 30.09 feet (October 1996)
below ground surface (bgs).
The report failed to include the portion of the laboratory report with TPH-diesel analysis of
the groundwater sample collected on October 8, 1996. Please submit this information.
The report included soil sample results from soil boring B4 at 15 feet which indicated that
the sample was diluted by a factor of 500. Please note that PHS/EHD has contacted
Curtis & Tompkins, and the laboratory report erroneously noted that the detection limit was
250 ppb, when actually the detection limit was 2,500 ppb. A laboratory report revision
will be prepared and should be forwarded to CAPE Environmental.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
