KEI-P88-1013 .QR6
November 10, 1993
Page 3
The analytical results of all of the ground water samples collected
from the Unocal monitoring wells to date are summarized in Table 4 .
The concentrations of TPH as gasoline and benzene detected in the
ground water samples collected this quarter from the Unocal wells
are shown on the attached Figure 4 . Copies of the laboratory
analytical results and the Chain of Custody documentation for the
Unocal samples are attached to this report.
As previously reported, a point monitoring and sampling event was
conducted on September 29 , 1993 , with the nearby Montgomery Ward
site. The ground water sample analytical results provided by
Environmental Audit, Inc. for the Montgomery Ward wells are
summarized in Table 5. The concentrations of TPH as gasoline and
benzene detected in the ground water samples collected from the
Montgomery Ward wells on September 29 , 1993 , are also shown on the
attached Figure 4 .
DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the analytical results of the ground water samples
collected and evaluated from the Unocal site to date, and based on
no evidence of free product or sheen in any of the Unocal wells,
KEI recommends the continuation of the current ground water
monitoring and sampling program. The Unocal monitoring wells are
currently monitored and sampled on a quarterly basis. The results
of the monitoring and sampling program will be documented and
evaluated after each monitoring and sampling event, and recommenda-
tions for altering or terminating the program will be made as
warranted.
In order to comply with a request from the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services (SJCPHS) Department, KEI previously
recommended the installation of an additional monitoring well as a
replacement for former well MW9 . This proposed well, identified as
MW14 , is shown on the attached Figure 5 . In addition, in order to
comply with a request by the SJCPHS to bring well MW6 into active
status (well MW6 is currently dry) , KEI recommended that MW6 be
destroyed and that a deeper replacement well be installed. This
proposed well, identified as MW15, is also shown on the attached
Figure 5 . KEI understands that Unocal is still continuing to
negotiate off-sate access permission for these additional wells.
Once off-site access agreements and all necessary permits have been
obtained, KEI will proceed with the proposed well destruction and
well installation activities.
