KEI-P88-1013 .QR5
August 9, 1993
Page 3
a
The analytical results for all of the ground water samples
collected from the Unocal monitoring wells to date are summarized
in Table 4 . The concentrations of TPH as gasoline and benzene
detected in the ground water samples collected this quarter from
the Unocal wells are shown on the attached Figure 4 . Copies of the
laboratory analytical results and the Chain of Custody documenta-
tion for the Unocal samples are attached to this report.
As previously reported, a point sampling event was conducted on
June 28 , 1993 , with the nearby Montgomery Ward site. The ground
water sample analytical results provided by Environmental Audit,
Inc. for the Montgomery Ward wells are summarized in Table 5 . The
concentrations of TPH as gasoline and benzene detected in the
ground water samples collected from the Montgomery Ward wells on
June 28 , 1993 , are also shown on the attached Figure 4 .
DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In order to comply with a request from the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services (SJCPHS) Department, KEI previously
recommended the installation of an additional monitoring well as a
replacement for former well MW9 . This proposed well, identified as
MW14 , is shown on the attached Figure 5. In addition, in order to
comply with a request by the SJCPHS to bring well MW6 into active
status (well MW6 is currently dry) , KEI recommended that MW6 be
destroyed and that a deeper replacement well be installed. This
proposed well, identified as MW15, is also shown on the attached
Figure 5 . KEI understands that Unocal is continuing to negotiate
off-site access permission for these additional wells. Once off-
site access agreements and all necessary permits have been
obtained, KEI will proceed with the proposed well destruction and
installation activities.
On May 27 , 3993 , a representative of KEI reviewed the file for the
adaacent Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center at the offices of the
Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) , Central Valley
Region, in Sacramento, California. The Montgomery Ward site is
located at 5400 Pacific Avenue, directly south of and across
Robinhood Drive from the Unocal site.
A report titled "Phase V Subsurface Investigation" by Environmental
Audit, Inc. and dated April 23 , 1993 , was contained in the file.
Based on the information contained in this report, in 1986 two
underground storage tanks and a waste oil tank were removed from
the Montgomery Ward site. In 1988 , four bulk oil underground
storage tanks were also removed from the site. The former
locations of underground fuel storage tanks and fuel islands are
shown on the attached Figure 5 . The former locations of the bulk
oil (four) and waste oil (one) tanks are not known to KEI .
