GETTLER - RYAN INC. <br /> FOURTH QUARTER 2001 <br /> GROUNDWATER MONITORING AND SAMPLING REPORT <br /> Cleanup and Abatement Order No 5-00-707 <br /> Former Montgomery Ward and Unocal Service Station #5098 <br /> 5400 and 5606 Pacific Avenue <br /> Stockton, California <br /> Report No 240022 01-001 <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> At the request of Unocal Corporation (Unocal), Gettler-Ryan Inc (GR) has prepared this Fourth Quarter <br /> (October through December) 2001 Groundwater Monitoring and Sampling Report for the former <br /> Montgomery Ward, LLC (Wards) site located at 5400 Pacific Avenue, and the former Unocal site located <br /> at 5606 Pacific Ave, Stockton, California Groundwater monitoring was conducted pursuant to <br /> requirements of Cleanup and Abatement Order (CAO) No 5-00-707, issued to Wards, Unocal, Surry <br /> California Limited Partnership, and Stone Brothers and Associated General Partnership on September 8, <br /> 2000, by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (RWQCB) <br /> Environmental Audit, Inc (EAT) continues to be the lead consultant for both saes <br /> Background <br /> The following background sections were taken from the EAI Third Quarter 2001, Groundwater <br /> Monitoring Report, EAI Project No 1232, dated November 9, 2001 <br /> Wards Site <br /> Wards formerly operated an auto service center at 5400 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California (Figure 1) <br /> Between 1986 and 1988, Wards removed one waste oil UST, four bulk oil USTs, and two gasoline USTs <br /> from the site Numerous investigations of the Wards site were conducted and a remedial system (air <br /> sparging coupled with vapor extraction) was installed to address the remediation of petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons present in soil and groundwater beneath the Wards site The remedial system was put into <br /> full operation in November 1999, and was in operation until December 2000 when the auto service center <br /> and remedial system were shut down due to Wards filing bankruptcy During its operation, the Wards <br /> remedial system removed approximately 8,000 pounds of hydrocarbons <br /> Groundwater monitoring at the Wards site has been conducted since 1993 Groundwater monitoring <br /> activities for the Wards site and the Unocal site, for the most part, were coordinated by the various <br /> consultants representing the two entities and conducted simultaneously Tables 1 through 3 summarizes <br /> 61 the historical groundwater testing results for the Unocal and Wards site <br /> 6747 Sierra Court , Suite J .
