Updated Site Conceptual Model and First Quarter 2002 Monitoring and Remediation Report <br /> Cleanup and Abatement Order No 5-00-707 EAI Project No 1232 <br /> • 3.0 GROUND WATER MONITORING <br /> All ground water monitoring and sampling activities were completed by Gettler-Ryan, Inc <br /> between March 3 and 5, 2002 On February 27, 2002, the remediation system was deactivated <br /> to allow ground water to stabilize before initiating gauging and sampling activities The system <br /> was reactivated on March 7, 2002 after completion of all monitoring and sampling efforts for <br /> this reporting period <br /> 31 Ground Water Sampling <br />' On March 3, 2002, prior to purging or sampling activities, depth measurements to fluid levels <br /> were obtained by Gettler-Ryan, Inc (GRI) from all monitoring wells associated with the Wards <br /> and Unocal (MW-1 through MW-27) sites Depth measurements were obtained using an <br />' interface probe accurate to 0 01 foot No free-product was detected in any of the wells The <br /> water level measurement for each well was converted to mean sea level (MSL) datum by <br /> subtracting the measured water level for each well from its respective "top of well casing <br /> elevation" datum (see Table 6) <br /> Between March 3 and 5, 2002 ground water samples were collected from the wells by GRT for <br /> analytical testing Standard operating procedures used by GRI for ground water monitoring are <br /> contained an Appendix B Appendix C contains the GRI ground water monitoring field logs, <br /> and Appendix D the chain of custody records <br /> 32 Effluent Handling <br /> As requested by Unocal, the purge water and decontamination water generated during sampling <br /> activities was transported by GRI to Tosco -- San Francisco Area Refinery, located in Rodeo, <br /> California (see Appendix B) <br /> 3.3 Analytical Testing <br /> The samples were delivered for analytical testing to Sequoia Analytical in San Carlos, <br /> California a state certified hazardous waste testing laboratory (Certificate No 2360). Sequoia <br /> Analytical is certified for all tests completed as part of this investigation <br /> The samples were analyzed for VOCs, including fuel oxygenates, e g , MTBE TBA DIPE <br /> , <br /> ETBE, TAME, and EDB by EPA Method 8260B, and TPH-G by modified EPA Method 8015 <br /> Pursuant to discussions with the RWQCB, the samples were not tested for ethanol or methanol <br /> Tables 1 and 7 present the historic and current (March 2002) analytical test data for the sites, <br /> respectively Appendix D contains the laboratory reports <br /> BHM 1212RO231 -6- <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT,INC <br />
