Reduce the explosive hazard of the tank by filling the <br /> tank with 1 . 5 pounds of dry ice for every 100 gallons <br /> of tank capacity. <br /> D. Remove any structures or hazards that will interfere <br /> with the tank excavation. <br /> E. Remove the concrete and asphalt pavement over the tank <br /> and carefully excavate to the top of the tank. <br /> F. Test the soil excavated with a portable hydrocarbon <br /> detection calibrated for parts per million (PPM Meter) . <br /> 1 . If this soil test at over 100 PPM stockpile it on <br /> plastic sheeting and notify the County. Proceed <br /> with the removal of the tank. <br /> 2. If this soil test at less than 100 PPM stockpile <br /> it for replacement in the hole or haul it off. <br /> G. Disconnect and drain the gasoline lines uncovered in <br /> the tank hole. Dispose of the liquid as outlined above. <br /> H. Remove the tank. Set the tank on plastic sheeting, and <br /> inspect for evidence of leakage. <br /> 2. TANK DISPOSAL <br /> A. Record the tank UL and serial number or remove and save <br /> the tank I .D. Plate. <br /> B. Triple wash down the inside of the tank. Collect this <br /> wash down residue in a sealable 55 gallon drum. Properly <br /> dispose of it by hauling to a class I dump site or re- <br /> cycling. <br /> C. Scrap and destroy the tank. After the tank has been removed test the soil directly <br /> under where the tank was with a PPM Meter. <br /> B. If the test is over 100 PPM immediately notify the County. <br /> C.
