Per your recent conversation with Mr. Dan Lapporte
of my staff, CPL also requests case closure for this site.
During the second quarter, groundwater elevations and flow were similar to previous monitoring
events. As described in the report, only one detection of total petroleum hydrocarbons
quantitated as diesel (TPH-d)was detected in well MW-1. No detectable concentrations of total
petroleum hydrocarbons quantitated as gasoline (TPH-g),polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
(PAHs), or benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene, and xylene(collectively BTEX)were detected.
CPLs request for case closure of this site is based on the following facts:
• There is no evidence that the highly weathered hydrocarbons potentially present in soil are
causing significant impacts to groundwater;
• There are no drinking water or water supply wells in the vicinity of the site;
• There is no surface water receiving body in the vicinity of the site;
• Over time,the total pollutant mass in the subsurface has decreased and will continue to
decrease(at a slower rate) in the future;
• The nature and extent of hydrocarbons in the subsurface has been defined and characterized;
• There are no separate phase hydrocarbons present on the groundwater table; and
• Soil and groundwater sampling conducted between May 1995 and May 1997 indicate no
migration of hydrocarbons potentially present in the subsurface.
CPL believes this site meets all RWQCB requirement and further actions should not be required
at the current time.
