DWorkplan- ; Moffat Boulevard Property
August 8,2013
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORK
The purpose of the proposed additional subsurface investigation will be to evaluate whether past
use of the waste water sump and/or the on-site septic disposal system resulted in significant
discharges of hazardous substances to the subsurface at the subject site. Prior to drilling and
sampling activities, we will direct a geophysical survey to evaluate the nature of the
underground features associated with the sump and septic system. In conjunction with the
geophysical work, the sump covers will be removed and observable conditions within the sump
will be evaluated. Based on the information gathered regarding the sump and septic system, we
will select up to five exploratory drilling locations; preliminarily selected boring locations are
shown on Plate 2. The geophysical contractor will be directed to clear the selected boring
locations of underground utilities. Additionally, we will contact Underground Service Alert to
further clear the boring locations.
As required, a boring permit application will be processed with the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department. The application process includes preparation and submittal
of a Workplan, a Health and Safety Plan, a permit application form, a Licensed Contractors
Declaration form, and a Master File Record form.
Following approval of the County boring permit application, we will advance five borings at the
site. Three of the borings will be advance in the vicinity of the sump and septic tank; these
borings will be advanced to a depth of about 15 feet. Two borings will be advanced in the area
of the septic leach field at the site; these borings will be advanced to a depth of about ten feet.
Continuous soil sampling will be performed in the borings; and samples will be retrieved in
accordance with standard environmental protocol. Following the drilling and sampling activities
the borings will be back-filled with neat-cement grout, and the pavements will be patched at the
boring locations. Drilling and sampling activities will be overseen by a Professional Geologist
from our office. Soil samples collected from the borings will be submitted to a State-certified
analytical laboratory for analysis for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), petroleum
hydrocarbons, and metals.
Following the field activities and the laboratory testing, we will prepare a summary report which
will include descriptions of our procedures and observations, a scaled site plan drawing, the
chemical data, discussion regarding the conditions encountered and the signature and stamp of
the Professional Geologist in charge of the project.
