(AGE)for the above referenced site.
The report documents the advancement of five soil probe borings beneath the on-site garage
building, collection and analysis of 42 soil samples. An adsorbed volume—mass calculation was
included in the report. The contamination area as calculated was only 10 feet in height, but the
comments in the boring logs reflect that the height of the contamination could be as great as 20
feet. In addition, the width and length for the triangle and rectangle, using the scale on the map
to measure those areas of contamination, do not match the distances used in the formulas to
calculate the area. Using the map information to estimate the area and a 20 foot height, the
volume of adsorbed contamination calculated would be larger than that estimated in the report.
The calculation only addresses the contamination under the building. The contamination north
and west of the building that was previously documented in the soil and has not been shown to
have been remediated has not been calculated. This would further add to the mass of
contamination in the soil remaining at the site. The mass of contamination remaining in the
ground water was also not calculated.
The report recommends further remediation at the site. EHD has received a copy of a letter from
you to AGE dated January 19, 2004, stating that ATC Associates will prepare a closure report for
this site. EHD will comment further on this site after submittal and review of the report being
prepared by ATC Associates.
If you have any questions contact Margaret Lagorio at (209)468-3449.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
jnAA- /T
Margaret Lagorio, Supervising REHS
Unit IV
c: CVRWQCB—Jim Barton
AGE—Bill Little
ATC—Drew Van Allen
San Joaquin County Supervisor Victor Mow
