 d
F
w
rw
3.4 Plan for Air Monitoring
During soil excavation, soil stockpiling, and well drilling and
construction operations, a Photovac TIP II air analyzer or equivalent will
be available to measure levels of airborne organic vapors. Readings will
be taken above the excavation and the tank to monitor the presence of
vapors. If sustained readings of total organic vapors of 20 parts per
million (ppm) above the background levels are detected in the workers'
breathing zone for five minutes, work will be stopped and respirators will
be donned by all personnel in the active zone. If levels of volatile
organics above background levels exceed the 20 ppm range, the SSO in
consultation with the HSO will make a determination for the need to upgrade
i safety measures. Examples of possible upgrades of safety measures include:
e
Full-shift p
Full- ft ersonnel air monitoring using personal sampling pumps r
_ 1. #
-,  and charcoal sorbent tubes;
2.
