(ATC) has prepared this workplan to conduct additional subsurface
investigation activities at the above referenced site. The purpose of the additional subsurface
investigation activities is to evaluate the vertical extent of impacted groundwater beneath the
site. This workplan was prepared based on previous discussions by the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD).
The scope of work includes advancing one vertical soil boring, chemical analyses of selected
groundwater samples, and preparing a summary report detailing site activities. The scope of
work is described in detail in the following paragraphs.
SITE LOCATION
The site is located at 2403 West Navy Drive in Stockton, California as shown on Figure 1. The
uses of the properties of the surrounding area are mixed, including both commercial and
industrial uses. The site is currently occupied by C&R International Sales Inc., a pet food
manufacturing facility.
BACKGROUND
In the late 1980's, one 1,000-gallon underground fuel storage tank was removed at the project
site. A San Joaquin County Notification of Hazardous Waste Discharge Report dated August
15, 1991, reflected that one or more soil samples were retrieved during the tank excavation.
Laboratory analysis of the samples exhibited elevated levels of petroleum hydrocarbons.
Correspondence from the SJCEHD dated August 13, 1991 confirmed the release and directed
KOK Realty Corp. to prepare and implement a workplan to document current subsurface
conditions in the vicinity of the former tank pit. In response, the law firm of McDermott, Will &
Emery engaged RESNA Industries Inc. to assess the nature and extent of soil and groundwater
contamination at the site.
In February 1992, a RESNA field geologist observed the advancement of three soil borings at
the site to characterize subsurface conditions. The borings were advanced to a depth of
approximately 30 feet below grade and subsequently converted to groundwater monitoring wells
MW1, MW2, and MW3. Monitoring well locations are shown on Figure 2. Groundwater was
s:\environmental\25803\Reports\CPT Workplan 1
