The site location is
shown on Figure 1
BACKGROUND
The site was the location of one underground storage tank. In response to a San Joaquin
County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) request for a
subsurface investigation, RESNA Industries, Inc (RESNA) was engaged by the law firm of
McDermott, Will & Emery to assess the nature and extent of soil and groundwater
contamination at the site
In early 1992 a RESNA field geologist observed the drilling of three soil borings (MW1,
MW2, and MW3) at the site to characterize subsurface conditions. Groundwater was
encountered at a depth of approximately 15-16 feet below ground surface The borings were
advanced to a depth of approximately 30 feet below grade and subsequently converted to
groundwater monitoring wells
Laboratory analysis of soil samples collected from the three borings determined that petroleum
hydrocarbon constituents were detected in the soil within 4-5 feet of the static water levels at
the site Laboratory analysis of groundwater samples collected from the wells subsequent to
development indicated that gasoline constituents were present above laboratory method
detection limits in the groundwater samples collected from each site monitoring well. Initial
groundwater monitoring data (March, 1992) determined groundwater flow direction to the
943341QUARTLy\3QR 1996 Doc 1
1250 Graphics Drive Modesto,CA 95351-1502 (209)579-2221 Fax(209)579-2225
Engineering Consulting Remediation Construction
t
