In response to a San Joaquin County
Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHSIEHD) request for a subsurface
investigation, RESNA was engaged by the law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery to assess the
nature and extent of soil and groundwater contamination at the site
In early 1992 three soil borings (MW 1, MW2, and MW3) were drilled at the site by RESNA
to characterize subsurface conditions Groundwater was encountered at a depth of approximately
15-16 feet below ground surface The borings were advanced to a depth of approximately 30
feet below grade and subsequently converted to groundwater monitoring wells
Laboratory analyses of soil samples collected from each of the three borings detected petroleum
hydrocarbon constituents in the soil within 4-5 feet of the static water levels at the site Soil
sample results are summarized on Table 1 A detailed discussion of the initial subsurface
investigation can be found in RESNA's Interim Problem Assessment Report, Soil and
Groundwater Contamination, dated June 8, 1992
OW0596%REPORMWPA-493 FNL
