ANNEX A <br />PERSONNEL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: <br />a. Personnel working in such tanks will wear rubber boots, <br />fresh air masks, life lines, and clean clothing with no <br />metal buttons or fittings. A copper rivet will be driven <br />into the heels of rubber boots to provide a ground or <br />discharge of static electricity which may accumulate on <br />personnel wearing safety equipment. <br />b. Fresh air will be supplied to the mask through a hose <br />with a positive displacement air blower to the windward <br />side of manhole in tank. Adequate power operated blowers <br />are responsible for the air supply until personnel <br />wearing mask have left tank and removed face piece. <br />Securely attach one end being held by an attendant <br />stationed on the tank to assist in his removal, if <br />necessary. <br />EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: <br />a. Canister type masks will not be used in lieu of masks <br />equipped with hose supplying fresh air. <br />3737 <br />b. Use non-ferrous tools for cleaning surfaces of rest, <br />sediment, ect. <br />C. Use only cotton cloths for cleaning purposes. Other <br />cloths tend to generate static electricity. <br />d. Lights of approved explosion -proof type only will be <br />used. <br />e. Discontinue cleaning operations while electric storm is <br />threatening or in progress. <br />f. Personnel on this operation are prohibited from wearing <br />wool, nylon, silk, rayon, and/or other static producing <br />material. Cotton cloth, is the only recommended type of <br />clothing. <br />
