0 0
This section applies to all emergency alarms in compliance with Cal/OSHA General Industry Safety Orders,Article 165,and
"Associate Alarm Systems."
Where fire alarm signaling systems are required, they will meet the requirements of the National Fire Protection
Association's "Standard for the Installation, Maintenance, and Use of Local Protective Signaling Systems for
Watchman,Fire Alarm and Team Leader Service,"NFPA No. 72A1975.
The Lodi facility has a fire alarm signaling system, which is a bell alarm. The system is designed to sound if a
water flow is detected in the sprinkler systems, indicating a possible fire. The bell alarm system signals
employees to evacuate the work area or to perform actions under this emergency action plan. After the bell
alarm begins to sound, the "Bay Alarm" security system, which is a supervised system, is automatically triggered
and sounds. This security system automatically notifies the Security Company,Bay Alarm, who notifies the local
Fire Department that the sprinkler system has had a sprinkler head activated. If no fire or emergency is found,
employees will be informed when it is safe to re-enter the building.
In the event the bell alarm system fails to respond, the Emergency Evacuation Team Leader will ensure the use of
the "intercom system" as a back up to evacuate the work area in addition to walking through the work area
notifying all employees to evacuate. Emergency messages have priority over non-emergency messages when
using the intercom system.
Employees are trained in the methods of reporting emergencies. These include pull box alarms, intercom
systems, telephones, in person or any combination of methods. Emergency telephone numbers are to be
conspicuously posted near the telephones.
MAINTENANCE AND TESTING
The "bell alarm" used as the fire alarm warning system is a supervised alarm system and is tested at every three
(3)months for reliability and adequacy by Bay Alarm.
The intercom system and telephones used as the back up fire alarm warning system, is operated daily and does not
require testing to ensure compliance with this plan.
EVACUATION
The types of evacuations are categorized into the following emergencies:
a) Fire
b) Flood
c) Earthquake
d) Toxic Chemical Releases,etc
TRAINING
Before implementing this Emergency Action Plan, the following training is required for the purpose of safe and
orderly evacuation of employees.
a) The Human Resources Manager and external consultants, if appropriate, will train all managers/Team Leaders
and their designated back ups in the elements of this Emergency Action Plan.
b) Business Unit Managers/Team Leaders will notify every employee of his/her responsibility under this plan,
when the plan is changed or when the employee's responsibilities change. Such notification will include
those parts of the plan that the employee must know to protect themselves in the event of an emergency,
including the plant layout and proper escape routes for the emergency causing the evacuation, i.e., fire, flood,
earthquake or toxic chemical release.
c) Business Unit Managers/Team Leaders or their back ups will also serve as "Evacuation Leaders" to assure that
employees are quickly moved from the danger area to the safe area. All Evacuation Leaders will be made aware of any
handicapped employees who may need extra assistance, such as using a "buddy system" and of hazardous areas to be
avoided during emergencies. Before leaving the danger area, Evacuation Leaders should check rooms and other
enclosed spaces in the workplace for employees who may be trapped or unable to evacuate the area.
10
