Lionudakis Firewood, Inc.
Page 3 of 6
Ground Zero proposes the advancement of up to (10) Geoprobe® soil borings to investigate the
lateral and vertical extent of soil contamination in the abandoned storm water basin. The
proposed work will include the following tasks:
• Permit and pre -field work activities;
• Advance of up to ten (10) soil borings;
• Collect soil samples;
• Analyze soil samples;
• Excavate and dispose of contaminated soil;
• Test storm drain system for diesel contamination; and
• Prepare and submit technical report.
2.1 Permitting and Pre -field Work Activities
Prior to drilling activities, a soil boring permit application and associated fees will be submitted to
EHD. Underground utilities will be checked by clearly marking the proposed boring location in
white paint and calling the location in for a clearance ticket by Underground Services Alert. Mr.
David Irey and EHD will be given notice at least 72 hours prior to conducting drilling activities.
2.2 Soil Borings
Ground Zero proposes the advancement of up to ten (10) soil borings (SB I -SB 10) in a step out
pattern from the location of B3 shown on Figure 3. The first four soil borings (SB I-SB4) will be
advanced approximately 10 feet north, south, east, and west of boring B3 to a depth of 20 feet
bgs or until the vertical extent of contamination is defined. Based on field observations and
subjective analysis with a photoionization detector (PID) additional borings will be advanced along
contaminated axes further away from boring B3 until the approximate extent of the contamination
is defined. The objective is to determine the lateral extent of the soil contamination around the
"hot -spot" located near boring B3 for the purpose of excavating the diesel contaminated soil.
Based on the Geoprobe® investigation an estimate of the volume of soil requiring disposal will
be prepared for landfill disposal purposes.
Drilling will be conducted by an experienced Ground Zero geologist under supervision of a
professional geologist. The geologist will supervise a C57 licensed well driller during the
advancement of the soil borings using direct push technology. After soil samples have been
collected the borings will be grouted to surface with neat cement.
Direct push technology produces minimal spoils. Any drill cuttings produced will be placed in
properly labeled DOT approved 55 -gallon drums, temporarily stored on-site, and disposed of with
excavated material.
2.3 Soil Sampling
Soil samples will be collected continuously in each of the borings beginning at 8 feet bgs to a total
depth of 20 feet bgs or until the vertical extent of contamination is defined. Soil samples will be
G:IGROUNDZEILIONUDAKISIWorkPlanlWP Site Assessment and Remediation.doc
