. SOP 2 - HYDROPUNCH/WELLPOINT GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
Groundwater sampling for contaminant screening will be accomplished with a 2-inch diameter
wellpoint or a Hydropunch H groundwater sampler. Prior to each sampling attempt, the
Hydropunch/wellpoint will be disassembled, steam cleaned or washed in a solution of water
and laboratory grade detergent, rinsed, and reassembled. Other decontamination procedures
will be conducted in accordance with Equipment Decontamination.
A pilot hole, consisting of an augered bore hole, will be advanced to within two feet of the
desired sampling depth prior to driving or pushing the Hydropunch/wellpoint below the open
bottom of the hollow-stem auger into the saturated formation. At the desired sampling
location, the Hydropunch protective sleeve will be retracted approximately 1.0 to 4.0 feet and
groundwater allowed to fill the disposable 1-inch diameter PVC well screen. A water sample
will then be collected using a stainless steel bailer. If a wellpoint is used, the screen and
point will be attached to a 2-inch diameter stainless steel well screen and allowed to fill with
groundwater. A water sample will be obtained using a clean bailer and the well point will be
withdrawn from the hole. If a Hydropunch is used, the protective sleeve assembly will be
retrieved while the PVC screen and tip remain in the boring. At the conclusion of
groundwater sampling, each bore hole will be backfilled to grade, or to an appropriate depth
slightly below grade (depending on existing surface conditions and site use), with a neat
cement grout.
Wadipl=SOF%-0740DW8-tea,=►mss SOP 2 -1
&Associates
