a=
Drilling and soil Sample callecti
The sail boring will be drilled by a licensed drilling contractor
using a mobile rig equipped with a inch diameter hollow stem
augers. The boring gill be drilled to approximately 20 feet.
Representative soil samples will be collected at a miniiaum of 5
foot intervals in 2" X 6" brass sleeves with the aid of a 140 lb.
slide hammer and split spoon sampler. A new and clean disposable
bailer will be used to collect a water sample from the inside of
the augers, at the first occurrence of ground water.
The augers and sampling equipment will be steam cleaned prior to
the drilling of the soil boring and the sampling equipment washed
with a TSP solution between each sampling interval.
During the drilling operations, the geologist will maintain a log
of the materials encountered. soil samples will be field screened
for the presence of total volatile organic (TVO) vapor's using a
handheld FID equipped with a 10,2 EV lamp. The PID will be
calibrated daily with a bottled standard supplied by the
manufacturer of the PID that simulates 54 ppm benzene.
Preservation Soil
After field screening, the sample sleeve ends will be sealed with
aluminum foil and further protected with plastic caps. The samples
will be labeled with IDI, location, depth, date, time, samplerfs
Initials and analyses to be performed. Then the sample will be
placed in an ice chest: at 4 degrees C and delivered with
accompanying chain of custody documentation to a California State
certified analytical laboratory.
Selecti n
Cart
i ied ata Analyses Oil S les
The soil samples from the 10, 15 and 20 feet below the surface
will be selected for certified laboratory analysis. The selected
soil samples and the water sample will be analyzed by a certified
laboratory for concentrations of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
Gasoline (TPH-G) using EFA method 8015mod and Benzene, Toluene,
Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes ($TRX) using EPA method 8020.
Destruction of confirmation Soil paring
The soil boring will be destroyed by the drilling contractor
on the same day they are drilled. The boring will be backfilled
from total depth to within two feet of the surface with C5$
bentonite neat cement. The surface portion of the hole will be
plugged with quick setting concrete and leveled to grade.
2
