Box 1211 Modesto, CA 95353 Attn: Mr. Juan Quijano Re: Well Location near Tri-Valley Growers' facility : 26200 Nowell Road, Thornton, California Exceltech Project No. 1582G Dear Mr. Quijano: This letter is regarding a well location study that is part of a site investigation at the above referenced facility. This letter presents the results of our well location efforts to date, which were a prerequisite to off-site groundwater sampling. The attached figure shows that six wells are known to exist within a 1/4 mile radius of the site. Four of these wells are located on-site and two are located on private property to the north. The existence of these wells was determined by examining government files, private records and site visits. it should be noted that very little information exists concerning well locations in this area. The drinking water supply for the Thornton community is supplied by a public water district which pumps from one or more wells west of the site. Prior to the implementation of this water supply system, domestic wells were used. Practically no information exists in county records as to the abandonment (proper or improper) or continued use of domestic wells in the area. As a result,. it is very diff icult to determine the location—, abandonment and/or use�of wells-near the.site., Since off-site sampling is required by the San Joaquin Local Health District, we understand that the following is needed as previously stated in an Exceltech letter to Tri-Valley Growers dated July 28, 1987. Given the obvious access problem, sampling will proceed only with permission from the individual property owners and in the presence of a San Joaquin Local Health District Representative. Well selection for sampling will be made in the field at the Health District Representative's direction. It is our understanding that the San Joaquin Local Health District will supply each domestic well owner with a copy of the certified laboratory report at the convenience of the San Joaquin Local Health District. Exceltech bears no responsibility during the sampling beyond that of collection of water samples from a point to be designated by the property owner.
