PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration.
The work plan indicated that purpose of the investigation was to determine the extent of residual soil
contamination between SB1 and 587 in the area of the former tank excavation, and the physical and 1
chemical characteristics of soil which relate to the movement of water and contaminants.
The work plan proposed to drill and sample three soil borings and to collect grab groundwater samples at
the capillary fringe and at the total depth of 20 feet. Please note that it may be necessary to drill and

sample deeper than the 20 feet proposed, in order to determine the extent of vertical migration of the ¢
contamination.
Your indication that the contamination observed during sampling of 561 occurred due to a plumbing spill
at the time of tank removal, may not have taken into consideration the contamination evidenced during
the sampling of HAI and HA2. Also, please note that the maximum depth of HAI and HA2 was 15 feet
and that it is likely that the contamination extended to a greater vertical depth based on the concentrations
detected. Therefore, it is also necessary that an additional soil boring be placed between 581 and HA3
and drilled to a depth greater than 15 feet.
Please submit in addendum your response to PHS/EHD comments.
