PHS/EHD has the following comments for your ;
consideration.
The work plan proposed a minimum of five soil borings to be drilled and sampled at 5 foot intervals. One
boring will be located off site on the property to the north of the former tank pit and if contamination is noted
during drilling, additional soil borings will be drilled to define the lateral and horizontal extent of the off site i
contamination. The remaining soil borings will be drilled on site to define the lateral and horizontal extent of
the on site contamination.
The work plan indicated that four soil samples from each soil boring would undergo laboratory analysis for
TPH-gas using EPA Method 5030 and BTEX using EPA Method 8020. Please be informed that EPA 5030 is a I
preparation method, purge and trap, and is required for BTEX and TPH-gas analysis. Furthermore, the detection
method required for BTEX is EPA 8020 which utilizes gas chromatography. Please also include analysis for
TPH-gas/diesel/motor oil since all three forms of TPH have been detected on the site.
j
Since the soil borings will be drilled on two parcels, two drilling permits will be necessary. Upon issuance of
the necessary permits, field work may be scheduled. Please provide at least 48 hours notice prior to initiating
field activities, so that PHS/EHD can schedule an inspection of the soil sampling and grouting activities.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact.Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M.
