�1 <br /> August 5, 1997 <br /> 38737 001 Harding Lawson Associates <br /> Ms Mary Meays <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Page 3 <br /> TVG submitted a workplan (TVG, 1995) to address issues raised by PHS/EHD The scope of work <br /> consisted of the following <br /> ♦ Advance three geoprobe-style borings in the area between SB-1 and SB-7 to depths of 20 feet bgs <br /> ♦ Collect soil samples at minimum 5-foot intervals in each boring <br /> Collect two hydropunch-style groundwater samples from each boring, <br /> • One at the beginning of saturated soils(6-10 feet bgs), and <br /> • One at hole termination of 20 feet bgs <br /> ♦ Analyze samples for TPHg with EPA method 8015M and BTEX with EPA Method 8020 <br /> ♦ Test selected representative samples for soil physical and chemical characteristics which relate to <br /> movement of water and contaminants through the soil <br /> PHS/EHD reviewed the TVG workplan,made additional comments and suggestions, and approved the <br /> Work Plan on December 21, 1995 <br /> SECOR Inveshgation <br /> TVG contracted SECOR to perform the scope of work outlined in TVG's Work Plan, Soil and Groundwater <br /> Investigation Tri Valley Growers, 25200 Nowell Road, Thornton, California and approved by PHS/EHD <br /> The investigation was performed on April 18, 1996 and consisted of advancing three soil borings (SB-8 to <br /> SB-10) using hollow-stem auger techniques to depths of 20 to 33 feet bgs Hallow-stem-auger drilling was <br /> used rather than the approved direct push method due to an equipment failure Soil samples were <br /> collected with a California modified split-spoon sampler at approximately 5-foot minimum intervals <br /> Hydropunch groundwater samples were to be collected at two depths in each boring, the beginning of <br /> saturated soil, and at termination of the hole at 20 feet bgs Although Hydropunch sampling is commonly <br /> performed with hollow-stem-auger techniques, apparently a hydropunch sampling tool was not available <br /> Groundwater samples were collected through the auger with a bailer <br /> Soil and groundwater samples were submitted to Inchcape Testing Services Environmental Laboratories <br /> (now called ITS) in San Jose Seven soil and six groundwater samples were analyzed for TPHg with EPA <br /> method 8015M and BTEX with EPA Method 8020 Analytical results are summarized in the following <br /> Table Laboratory analytical reports have been requested from both SECOR and the laboratory but have <br /> not yet been made available to TVG <br /> SECOR Inveshgation at TVG Plant T, Thornton, Califorma, on April 18, 1996 <br /> Soil Sample Analytical Results <br /> Sample TPHg Benzene Toluene Ethylbenzene Total <br /> Number I I I I I Xylenes <br /> Soil Samples milligrams per kilogram m <br /> SB-8-16 0 <0 50 <0 005 <0 005 <0 005 <0 005 <br /> SB-9-11 5 <0 50 <0 005 <0 005 <0 005 <0 005 <br /> SB-9-15 5 2 2 <0 005 <0 005 <0 005 <0 005 <br /> SB-10-16 0 0 8 <0 0 <0 005 <0 005 <br /> SB-10-19 5 <0 50 0 005 0 012 <0 005 0 022 <br /> SB-10-26 0 4 6 0 068 0 062 0 051 0 14 <br /> SB-10-32 5 0 7 0 019 0 054 0 022 0 012 <br /> SB-9-11 5 - indicates sam le from 11 5 feet bgs in boring number 9 <br />
