The EHD listed `Concerns'
in response to the soil vapor sampling report dated 22 June 2009.
The first concern in the letter was the significant detection of TPH-d in a 1994 soil sample from boring
B8 at 20 feet below surface grade, in the eastern most boring for the RFS site. Based on the
distribution of the TPH-d impacted soil from the boring established surrounding boring B8, the shallow
soil does not appear to be heavily impacted; noteworthy is the distribution of the impacted soil does not
extend east of boring B18 (Vapor well VW-2), from the former UST area. However, two diesel UST
were removed from the area of borings B7 and B8 yet samples results from UST#3 north and UST#4
south were almost ND. With the significant concentration of dissolved TPH-d near
boring B13 and the lack of shallow TPH-d impacted soil near the boring B12, MW-3, B7 and B8, with no
TPH-d impact detected at boring MW-5 (B1 1) the source of the impact at 20 feet bsg in the eastern
portion of the site, is likely attributed to the ASTs on the Jimco site.
AGE proposed remediation in the eastern portion of the site (RAWP 20 January 2000), near boring
B8, however your office decided that was not required (Ron Rowe stated not to be concerned over the
diesel cleanup?) and requested a modified work plan to reduce the number of eastern remediation
wells. This late statement of the `concern' for this deep soil impact is contradictory to the EHD approved
the remediation work plan. This impact will be addressed in the proposed closure summary report.
Additional concerns regarding shallow soil vapor analysis quality control (type of QAQC) and limited
sample analysis will be addressed in the proposed closure summary report or by direct
correspondence.
William R.
