The CUF recommends that. the EHD consider closure for this site. The EHD has been
considering closure for this site and has attempted to resolve a soil gas data issue to show that
there is little potential for vapor intrusion associated with the unauthorized release from the
underground storage tank system formerly on the site.
Soil gas samples collected at the site for the vapor intrusion evaluation, analyzed by a GC/MS
method for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPHd), were reported as non-
detect at 20,000 micrograms per cubic meter, however a calibration curve for diesel was not run
on the instrument. The EHD has attempted to resolve the data quality issue with the consultant
and with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board. It is anticipated that the data
TPHd will be found to be acceptable or that the soil gas will be resampled. As soon as it is
shown, with reliable data, that vapor intrusion does not pose a significant hazard, the EHD will
move the site promptly toward closure.
Questions or comments should be directed to Victoria McCartney at (209) 468-9852 or to Nuel
Henderson at (209)468-3436.
Sincerely,
Victoria McCartney, REHS Nuel Henderson, PG
Senior Registered Environmental Engineering Geologist
Health Specialist
Annual 5-Year Review Update Response 2010.doc
