12 April 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0137
10. Log borings in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
11. Collect ground water samples from selected probings. Each ground water sample will be
collected using a Geoprobe water sampling assembly. The samples will be collected in 40-m1,
EPA approved, VOA vials and amber 1-liter bottles, using a Geoprobe water sampling
assembly.
12. Backfill each probing using a concrete-bentonite slurry in the entire depth of the probing.
13, Selected soil samples and ground water samples will be analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as
diesel (TPH-d) and volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylenes:
BTE&X) in accordance with the appropriate EPA methods.
4.2. Ir14"STALLATION OF GROUND WATER MONITORING NVELLS
If hydrocarbon-impacted ground water is encountered on the Jimco property during the investigation,
the PHS-EI-?D may require the installation of a ground water monitoring wells. The following
procedures will be performed for the installation of monitoring wells:
I, Notify the PHS-EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, while securing proper
city/county soil boning permits.
2. Boring locations Mll be marked at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground Service
Alert (USA) check of underground utilities or pipes.
3. Advance each boring using a truck-mounted drill rig, and 8.25-inch diameter hollow stern
augers. Each boring will be advanced to depths of 30 feet bsg. The boring locations will be
approved by the PHS-EHD prior to drilling.
4. Decontaminate all sampling equipment in an alconox solution and rinse twice with water prior
to each sampling run. Steam-clean auger flights before advancement of each boring.
5. Sample each boring, beginning at 10 feet bsg, utilizing a California split-spoon sampler and
pre-cleaned 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves.
6. Preserve soil in the brass sleeve by covering both ends with aluminum foil or Teflon tape,
capping, and sealing with tape.
7. Store the samples under ice and transport the samples in a chilled ice chest to a State certified
laboratory for analysis.
8. Screen soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization
detector(PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
