1 <br /> Mr Bill Little <br /> Advanced GeoEnvironmental (North) <br /> ' Ripon Farm Service <br /> November 18, 1996 <br /> ' Page 2 <br /> 1 <br /> COMMENT <br /> Physicochemical analyses reveal a relatively high (alkaline) pH as well as an excessive amount <br /> of potassium associated with the evaluated soil sample Although other physicochemical <br /> parameters are generally within acceptable limits, the above-mentioned conditions may be <br /> contributing to a lower than normal recovery of viable heterotrophic (general) and contaminant- <br /> specific microbes Due to the possibility of inducing shock upon initiating pH change however, <br /> we recommend that at least two additional months of sampling and analyses be conducted for <br /> these soils Although absolute numbers of microorganisms are low, there is a reasonable <br /> '. proportion of specific biodegraders present These orgarusms are likely effecting some level of <br /> biodegradation of the specific hydrocarbon contaminants, although the degree of such activity <br /> cannot be ascertained by a single sampling event At least two additional analyses will indicate <br /> ' the level of specific microbiological activity and will additionally provide information as to the <br /> level and degree of nutrient supplementation or alteration which will be required to optimize <br /> and/or maintain suitable bioremedial activity <br /> 1 <br /> Should you have any questions concerning this information, please do not hesitate to contact me <br /> AKK ch <br /> 10• <br />
