Highway 99, Stockton, CA
Dear Mr. Barton:
Pursuant to your letter dated December 3, 2003, the following summarizes system operation during
the week of December 1,2003.
The interim treatment system was not in operation during the week. The system was shut down on
November 18, 2003 to service the GAC units. The carbon was replaced on December 1, 2003 by
Carbon Resources, with Sabre Series CR1230C virgin activated carbon, and a supplemental 200-
pound GAC unit was also delivered to the site with virgin activated carbon. The skimmer was
removed from the extraction well and the pump was placed back in the well on December 3, 2003.
The malfunctioning pump/fluid level controller was also replaced at that time. The carbon was
wetted on December 4, 2003 and a fluid pressure test was conducted. GAC unit Cl failed the
pressure test, leaking from the man-way on the top of the unit. New gaskets were.delivered,to T
. _:Ground.Zero-by Carbon-Resources on December"1-0, 2003.' Ground'Zero expects to install the
gaskets on December 10th or December l l`t` and re-test the system. We anticipate putting the
system back into operation on December 12t'.
Pursuant to your letter, Ground Zero will collect samples from Cl, C2, and the treatment system
effluent every third day for the presence of VOCs, including MTBE, upon re-starting the system.
Influent samples and inorganic analysis of effluent samples will continue to be collected weekly.
Tables 1 and 2, attached, summarize treatment system flow and analytical data collected to date.
