Highway 99, Stockton, CA
Permit to Operate No. N-6574
Dear Mr. Swaney:
Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. (Ground Zero) is writing to request modifications to the soil vapor
extraction system at 8200 N. Highway 99, Stockton, California (Permit to Operate No.N-6574).
The soil and groundwater remediation project is served by .a 0.5 MMBTU/hr Solleco Model
400TCAT (LR) LPG-fired thermal/catalytic converter. Ground Zero operated the unit in thermal
oxidizer mode between August 3, 2005 and November 4, 2005, at which time the unit was shut
down pending conversion to catalytic oxidizer mode. .The conversion was completed on
November 22, 2005 and the system has operated in catalytic oxidizer mode from November 22,
2005 to the present.
Initial vapor concentrations in the influent sample collected on August 8, 2005 measured 5,100
µglL TPHg, and the vapor extraction system removed approximately 1 721
pounds ofgasoline through November 4, 2005, an average of approximately 30.7 pounds per day during operation in
thermal oxidizer mode. The influent vapor sample collected September 12, 2005 contained
TPHg at 11 pg/L. Since November 22, 2004, the vapor extraction system removed
approximately 145 pounds of gasoline, an average of approximately 2.0 pounds per day during
operation in catalytic oxidizer mode. Recent analytical results and PID readings of influent
samples indicated that the hydrocarbon removal rate has averaged less than one pound per day of
operation since January 9, 2006 (please see Table 1).
Ground Zero is currently operating the unit in pulsed extraction mode, wherein the system is idle
for 2 weeks, then extracts vapor for 1 week and repeats the cycle. Based upon the last month of
operation, less than one pound per day of hydrocarbons are extracted from the subsurface (please
see Figure 1). As currently configured, the system utilizes approximately 25 gallons of LPG per
