Jim Barton - Status Update, Groundw Treatment System Speedy Foods age 1
i
From: "John Lane" <jlane@groundzeroanalysis.com>
To: "Barton, Jim" <BartonJ@rb5s.swrcb.ca.gov>, "Wong, Jeff' <jwong@sjcehd.com>
Date: 612105 10:58AM
Subject: Status Update, Groundwater Treatment System, Speedy Foods
Jim and Jeff:
This email is to follow up on the voicemail I left for Jim yesterday
(06101105). The groundwater treatment system at the Speedy Foods site
was shut down on 05/31/05 at approximately 18:30 for the following
reasons:
. i
1. Treatment system sample results for sample collected 05/23/05 showed
breakthrough of carbon unit C2, the lead unit, at approximately 2.3 ppb
MTBE;while also showing breakthrough of the trail unit (C1) at.52 ppb -
MTBE resulting in an apparent discharge to the ground surface. These
results are somewhat anomalous since you would expect to see
breakthrough occur in the lead unit prior to the trail unit. Also,
based upon a preliminary carbon usage analysis, the carbon usage from
C1 should have been well less than 500 pounds, less than 114 capacity.
Upon confirming the preliminary results with the laboratory late on
05131105,we resampled the EFF and C2 and submitted samples to the
laboratory on 06101105. i will keep you informed of the re-test as
soon as results are available. .
2. Upon our regular weekly O&M visit earlier on 05131105, the tenant
indicated that the San Joaquin County Mosquito &Vector Control
District had concerns regarding ponded water in the field. It appears
that work by CalTrans has altered our discharge area resulting in
visual ponding of water, We need to evaluate alternate discharge
methods, such as an infiltration gallery or infiltration wells. This
should be discussed with Jim Barton upon his return.
Respectfully,
John Lane
Ground Zero Analysis, Inc.
