The report documented the installation of 5 groundwater monitoring wells
MW10, MW11, MW12, MW13C, MW14B, and a 4-inch diameter vapor extraction well
VEW1 at the above-referenced site in October 2003, analytical results of 3 consecutive
sampling events since Oct6ber 2003, and the result of a soil vapor extraction (SVE)
feasibility test.
Monitoring wells MW10, MW11, and MW13 were screened from 60 feet below surface
grade (bsg) to 80 feet bsg, in the shallow groundwater zone that Groundzero has designated
as A Zone. MW13C was screened from 202 feet to 222 feet bsg in the deepest zone
designated as C Zone. MW14B was screened from 109 feet to 124 feet bsg in the B Zone.
VEWI was screened from 55 feet to 70 feet bsg; a short-term soil vapor extraction test was
subsequently conducted in October 2003. Analytical results of NIW13C groundwater
samples were 36 micrograms per liter (ug/1) methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE) in October
2003, 80 ug/l MTBE in December 2003, and 110 ug/l MTBE in March 2004. Analytical
results MW12 groundwater samples were 2,500 ug/1 MTBE in October 2003, 2,000 ug/l
MTBE in December 2003, and 1,500 ug/l MTBE in March 2004. Groundwater flow
direction in the shallow zone was modeled to be approximately northeast.
The vertical extent of the contamination plume, and the lateral extent of the contamination
in the C Zone are not defined. Due to the proximity of the on-site potential receptor that is
the water supply well, as well as private drinking water wells off site, additional investigation
that will characterize the vertical extent of the groundwater contamination and the lateral
extent of the plume in C Zone must be implemented as soon as possible. Submit a work
plan to delineate the vertical and the lateral extent of the dissolved contamination in the
deep zone to EHD by July 30, 2004.
It is unknown if the new water supply well, located 110 feet east of MW13C, has any
communication on the contamination plume.
