8800 N. Highway 99 (east access road) - 3 - 27 December 2006
Stockton Nmd
would have been less than 1.0 ug/L. Both additive sum results, although non-detect, would
exceed the General Order Effluent limit of less than 0.5 ug/L.
• The General Order requires that all of the PAHs listed in the MRP must be analyzed and
their resultant concentrations be added up to a sum that is less than 0.5 ug/L. The entire
MRP list of analytes has not been reported and subsequently there is no way to verify that.
1. The Influent sample results for twenty PAHs are non-detect at a reporting limit that is less
than 0.5 ug/L; and
2. The Effluent sample results for the twenty PAHs add up to a result that is less than
0.5 ug/L,
Therefore, I cannot concur to your reduction in sampling request at this time. Please work with
your laboratory to duplicate the analyte list of twenty General Order-required PAHs in the next
three monthly rounds of sampling. If the results show that the General Order requirements have
been met (The Influent PAHs analysis is non-detect, at an additive sum of the individual
reporting limits that is less than 0.5 ug/L; and/or the Effluent PAHs analysis additive sum is less
than 0.5 ug/L), and Regional Board staff concur in writing that the analytical results are correct
and adequate for comparison to the General Order requirements, then the analytical frequency
of sampling and reporting of the PAHs may be reduced to annual for the Influent Monitoring
and/or may be conditionally eliminated for the Effluent Monitoring, per requirements cited above
in paragraph two of this letter.
If you have any questions, please telephone me at (916) 464-4615, or email me at
jbarton@waterboards.ca.gov.
JAMES L.L.
