tArgon Laboratories analyzed all groundwater samples collected for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg) using EPA 801513, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) using
EPA 8021B, and oxygenated gasoline additives, ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane
(1,2-DCA) using EPA 8260B
No gasoline constituents were detected in the groundwater samples collected from wells MW7, MWS,
' MW9B, MW 10, MW 11, or MW 14B in March 2004
1 TPHg and BTEX constituents were detected in groundwater samples collected from wells MW1,
MW2, MW12, and VW1 in March 2004 Well MWi contained TPHg at 25,000 parts per billion
(ppb), benzene at 3,300 ppb, toluene at 3,900 ppb, ethylbenzene at 180 ppb, and xylenes at 1,300 ppb
' Well MW2 contained TPHg at 390 ppb, benzene at 2 3 ppb, ethylbenzene at 1 9 ppb, and xylenes at
8 1 ppb Well MW 12 contained xylenes at 2 1 ppb Well V W 1 contained TPHg at 7,200 ppb,
benzene at 990 ppb, toluene at 620 ppb, ethylbenzene at 150 ppb, and xylenes at 620 ppb
' MTBE was present in wells MW 1, MW2, MW3, MW4, MW5, MW6, MW 12, MW13C, and VW1 at
concentrations of 6,200 ppb, 390 ppb, 3,000 ppb, 9,100 ppb, 96 ppb, 14 ppb, 1,500 ppb, 110 ppb, and
' 4,900 ppb, respectively No MTBE was detected in samples collected from wells MW7, MW8,
MW913, MW10, MW11, or MW14B
' Table 5 summarizes groundwater analytical results Figures 3 and 4 present isoconcentration maps
of MTBE and benzene in the A Zone, respectively Attachment D contains Iaboratory reports and
chain-of-custody documentation for groundwater samples collected from wells MW2 through
' MW13C and VWI in March 2004 Attachment E contains graphs of TPHg, benzene, and MTBE
concentrations of over time in all site wells
' 3.3 Domestic Well Sampling and Analysis
At the request of EHD, Ground Zero collected water samples from eight nearby domestic wells,
including the site facility well The samples were collected from either a sample port at the wellhead
or from the nearest available sampling location (i a garden hose) Samples were collected after the
pump was turned on for approximately 15 minutes The samples were immediately stored in an ice
chest refrigerated to a temperature of approximately 4°C and delivered under chain of custody protocol
to FGL Laboratories (ELAP #1563) and analyzed for volatile organic constituents utilizing EPA
Method 524 2 No VOCs were detected in any of the samples collected from the nearby domestic
' wells Copies of the laboratory reports were submitted to each property owner separately and a copy
was sent to Mr Jeff Wong of EHD
4.0 SUMMARY
The groundwater treatment system was put into operation on November 5, 2003 pursuant to WDR
General Order No R5-2003-004412 The system generally operated continuously during the reporting
period (January through March 2004) The average flow rate during the reporting period was 1 3 gpm
