6
Chevron U.S.A. - Page 3
TECHNICAL APPROACH
Based upon the information provided to this office regarding the subject property,
coupled with the review of the published ground water data and review of previous
investigations at the subject property, the following proposed work plan has been developed
to help identify the presence of contamination in subsoils and possible impact to ground
water at the subject property.
In order to accomplish the goals established for the proposed investigation, the work
Lwould be separated into four distinct tasks as follows:
I. Literature survey and research of readily available data regarding site history
and use, geologic and hydrogeologic conditions, and previous site investigations;
II. Field investigation to advance exploratory soil borings for the purpose of
logging subsurface conditions and obtaining subsoils samples for chemical
analysis. Three ground water monitoring wells would then be completed in the
soil borings advanced at the subject property. These locations will be selected
is areas generally located at or near corners of the subject property to identify
ground water depths, gradient, direction of flow, ground water quality, and long
term monitoring. Based upon field observations, the investigation of both soil
Cand ground water would be contiguous while at the subject property.
III. Laboratory analysis of subsoil and ground water samples obtained from the field
investigation to determine the presence and concentration of petroleum
constituents contamination;
IV. Prepare a written report which details the findings of our Investigation. The
written report would include recommendations regarding noted conditions at the
subject property as well as recommendations regarding possible future Phase III
work for area-specific characterization and delineation of contaminants.
a
TASK I: Literature Surye-y
The literature survey and published data research portion of the investigation would
be conducted to gather specific information regarding conditions at the subject property.
Interviews with Chevron personnel will be conducted to help determine previous site use and
site history. Published data review of geologic and hydrogelogic conditions win be
conducted to help define the existing conditions at the subject property. The literature
survey should help to reduce the amount of field investigation necessary by providing a
clearer understanding of the prevailing conditions.
TASK II: Field Invests ation
The field investigation portion of the investigation will include the exploratory
drilling and sampling of subsoils, and installation of ground water monitoring wells, and
the development and sampling of ground water monitoring wells.
