effler — ran inc .
genera contras ors
July 25, 1989
Chevron U.S.A. Inc. '
Post Office Box 5004 .. ,
San Ramon, California 94583-0804
Attention: Mr. John Randall
Reference: Chevron Service Station #6155
Highway 99/Morada Lane
Stockton, California
Gentlemen:
This letter discusses the backfilling of the soil borings that were drilled at the
referenced location on May 19, 1988. The drilling activities are documented in a
Woodward-Clyde Consultants (WCC) report dated,February 13, 1989.' The •four soil borings
were drAIC¢ to 45 feet below grade and'according to WCC, groundwater. was not
encountered:
A San Joaquin County Environmental.Health Division inspection was scheduled the following
day (May 20, 1988) to observe the backfilling of the soil borings . Specific
instructions were given by the inspector on how the County wanted the borings
backfilled. A concrete truck containing 3/4 inch rock and cement was sent back by the
inspector and per his request a load of sand and cement was delivered. The borings were
then backfilled to three feet below grade with sand and cement grout and topped with soil ;
the final three feet, per the inspectors instructions. The Daily Report sheet dated May ,
20, 1988 is attached for your review.
The WCC report states that cuttings were used to backfill the borings. As indicated
above, this information is incorrect. WCC was not on site when the borings were
backfilled. Let me know if the report needs to be revised.
Please do not hesitate to call should you have any questions or comments.
Jerry W.
