i
era Chevron U.S-A.
Pegc 6
5.2 Soil Aeratic n
Aeration of stockpiled soil began on March 20, 1990. During the first several
months of the aeration process, until August 22, 1990,soils were spread in an
approximately 12-inch-thick lift over plastic. The lift was exposed to air and
i
sunlight and left in place as needed to achieve a"non-detected"reading from a
` photoionization detection meter. "Non-detected"lifts were picked up and stockpiled
and a new lift of contaminated soils was spread. Stockpiled, treated soil was
composited and chemically analyzed. Location of composited sampling was at the
direction of a representative of San Joaquin County Health Department.
Five lifts of aerated soils were stockpiled following"non-detection",as
recorded by field screening with a photoionization detection device. The stockpile
was sampled for chemical analysis on June 7, 1990. Twelve soil samples, each
consisting of three composite samples, were taken at locations specified by Mr.
Harlan Knoll of the San Joaquin County Health Department. These sample locations are
(( ' illustrated on Plate 3. Results of sample analyses are summarized in Table Ii.
I
r 16600-250-044 -
