It
concentrations were found to decline towards the north end of the tank. Most likely a spill occurred
. near the south end of the 12000-gallon diesel tank.
REPORT OF FINDINGS FROM THE INSTALLATION OF MW#1
PROCEDURE
Soil Boring and Soil Sampling
An eight-inch soil bore was placed about ten feet south of the existing 12000-gallon diesel tank
excavation(see Site Plan attached). Soil samples were extracted at five foot intervals by a standard
BX split spoon soil sampler through an eight-inch hollow stem auger. Standard 2"x 6" soil sample
tubes were be capped with Teflon sheets and plastic caps. The caps were secured with duct tape and
stored on ice.
Soil Sample Analysis
Samples were transported under chain of custody on ice to Sherwood Labs for analysis. Samples
were analyzed by EPA methods 354018015(M)and 802018015(M)for BTEX,TPHg and TPHd.All
soil samples were analyzed for oxygenates by EPA method 8260. The water sample was analyzed
by the EPA method 60218015(M), 351018015(M) and 8260B for BTEX, TPHg, TPHd and
oxygenates.
• Monitoring Well Construction
A two-inch PVC monitoring well was installed in the eight-inch soil bore.Twenty feet of 0.01 PVC
screen was set to the bottom of the fifty-five-foot soil bore. The#2 x#16 sand filter was placed two
feet above the screen section and a two-foot bentonite plug was placed above the filter.Cement grout
was pumped to the surface above the bentonite plug. The monitoring well was secured with a locked
cap and monument. Monitoring Well MW#1 was developed by Spectrum on 05/16/01 by purging
and pumping using the standard methods of the industry.
Water Sampling and Analysis
Water samples from MW#1 were extracted by Del Tech Geotechnical Support Services on 05124101.
The sample was transported under chain of custody to Sherwood Labs. Entech Analytical Labs
analyzed the water sample for oxygenates by EPA Method 8260.Pump rates were one G.P.M.Depth
to the water surface was 48.21' with a+1- 4' stick-up on the casing. The water table at the time of
sampling is about 44' below the surface.
FINDINGS
The four soil samples extracted at 10', 15', 20', and 25' from the MW41 soil bore yielded diesel
contamination to 1550 mg/Kg when analyzed for TPHd. All other soil samples were analyzed as
non-detect for BTEX, TPHg and TPHd. The water sample was found to be non-detect for BTEX,
TPHg, TPHd, and all oxygenates.
CONCLUSIONS
The top two samples in the soil boring were a very clean fine sand. The rest of the soil bore samples
2
