10 April 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0108
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
3.1. SOIL PROBING
AGE proposes to initially advance four soil probings at the site to determine the lateral and vertical
extent of hydrocarbon-impacted soil remaining at the site. Probings will be advanced usincy a
. i
Geoprobe 5400 probing unit equipped with 1.125-inch probing rods. Each probing xvill be advanced
to a depth of-30 feet. One probing will be advanced within the western portion of the former UST
excavation; one probing will be advanced southwest of the former excavation-, and two additional
probing will be advanced in the parking area east of the former UST excavation. The proposed
probing locations are depicted in Figure 2.
Discrete soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals using a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly
and four pre-cleaned brass sleeves. Upon sample retrieval, the ends of the second brass sleeve will
be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Samples .vill be placed in a chilled
container and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a State-certified laboratory. Elach
sample sleeve will be labeled with the following: boring location. depth, time, date and sampler's
Initials.
3.2. STOCKPILE SOIL SAMPLING
AGE proposes to collect up to 15 discrete soil samples from hydrocarbon-impacted stockpiled soil
and impacted soil which was backfilled into the UST excavation. Stockpile soil samples 1v;ll be collect
from approximately 2 feet below the surface, soil samples from the backfilled stockpile will be
collected frorn approximately 3 feet below surface grade. Sample will be collected usim, a metric soil
sampler pre-loaded with two 2 by 3-inch brass sleeves.
3.3 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox. All probing rods will be cleaned prior to
advancement at each probing location.
3.4 LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil 'aid ground water samPLes dill be analyzed fc7r TPH ar1i BTEcX in accordance.with
EPA methods 8015n>/5030 and 8020/602, respectively. I.a-beratar,-reports of both soil and `round
water analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control (IQA,'QC) reports. and
