i
Figure 3 is a 1 "- 20' plan map of the site which shows the
' location of the adjacent buildings, tank pit , spoils piles,
underground utilities and proposed soil borings.
INVESTIGATION OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE
The purpose of this investigation is to determine the level
and extent of the soil contamination surrounding the tank site
' and to determine if ground water could have impacted by the
leakage or over fill activity. No remediation or cleanup of
contamination is covered under this plan other than the material
disturbed associated with the sampling process.
CURRENT SITE AND TANK STATUS
' All three tanks were removed on or about 12-20-91 by
C.C.Wood Co . The tanks were inspected by SJC-EHD and said to be
in poor shape with no holes reported . The site was not sampled on
that day and upon the return of SJC--EHD on 12-27-91 the tank pit
had been filled with water and inoculated with "superbugs" , a
bioremediation bacteria . In addition the spoils had been spread
' out and were being sprinkled with water containing the bacteria .
Water at this time was standing at about 4 feet from the lip of
the tank pit . Three spoils samples and one tank pit water sample
was collected by SJC-EHD at this time.
i As the site remains, the pit and spoils pile are open to the
air and enclosed within a six foot cyclone security fence.
1 PREVIOUS TESTING
The two diesel tanks were pressure tested annually from 1986
through 1989 and passed within NEPA limits, No record of testing
of the smaller gasoline tank was found .
On 12-27-91 SJC-EHD collected three spoils samples and one
tank pit water sample.
i , The following table shows the results of that sampling in
parts per million (ppm) .
' TABLE 1
SAMPLE MATRIX BENZENE TOLUENE XYLENE E'BENZENE TPH LEAD
' -D TOTAL
S#1 SPOILS ND .07 1 .3 .52 1460 B
S#2 SPOILS ND ND .4
ND 689 9
I , S#3 SPOILS ND ND ND ND BRL BRL
W#1 PIT WATER ND ND .63 ND 10,300 BRL
BRL : (BELOW REPORTING LEVEL)
' Preliminary Organic Vapor Analyzer survey of the pit showed
. values distributed through the pit bottom to 12 ppm (See included
table 2 and field map ) .
I ' 2
' T & T EARTH SERVICES
