Groundwater
has been observed to move from the north to the south apparently from surface irrigation activity
in the adjoining walnut orchard north of the tank excavation. In addition soil types, sand, silt and
silty sands observed in the excavation may act to aid rapid lateral and or horizontal contaminant
migration. Further investigation in the form of soil sampling is therefore required in the
vicinity of the original tank excavation.
A workplan is anticipated to arrive at this office by August 11, 1995 for review and approval.
Upon approval, please contact this office to schedule an appointment for sampling.
A request for site closure cannot at this time be considered, however, the original tank pit may
be backfilled and compacted with approved materials as described by the Uniform Building Code
(PHS-EHD recommends fill material other than pea gravel). Include this proposal in the
workplan you are submitting on August 11, 1995.
If you have any questions please contact Ron Rowe, Senior REHS at (209) 468-0342.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Ronald Rowe, Senior REHS Diane M. znson, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
11396.1et
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
