A
Mr Ronald Rowe
June 24, 1999
Page 2
• Due to the shallow depths of these borings it is assumed that a du-ect-push drilling method will
be used A C-57 California licensed driller will be contracted to perform the drilling and
sampling of the proposed boreholes The direct push method uses a small diameter drive shoe
and continuous rod that is mechanically pushed and rotated into the subsurface A continuous
core of soil is collected in the sample sleeve (usuallylastic) as the drill stem is advanced.
Continuous cores are retrieved at a typical interval ofp3 feet Soil samples collected for analysts
will be packaged directly from the continuous core when the targeted depth is reached or at an
interval specified by the County The ends of each sample will be unmediately covered and
sealed, labeled, and placed into a cooled ice chest
The samples will be transported under proper chain of custody to Kiff Analytical LLC a
California certified laboratory(#2236) located in Davis,California.
Schedule
Fieldwork will start approximately within 15 working days from the receipt of County approval
of this work plan The actual start date will also be based on subcontractor availability It is
anticipated the fieldwork will take one day to complete, the samples will be run on standard
turnaround and a report summarizing the fieldwork will be prepared and submitted to the
County within 45 days of the fieldwork
Summary of Stockpile Sample Analyses
• Stockpile samples were collected on May 21, 1999,to characterize the soil generated during over
excavation activities at the site Six discrete samples were collected and then composited in the
laboratory resulting in 3 composite soil samples These samples were identified as (OX-1, OX-
2), (OX-3, OX-4), and (OX-5, OX-6) Totat petroleum hydrocarbons in the diesel rangge were
identified in each of the three composite samples The concentrations were 5,700 mg&g, 4,800
mg/Kg, and 1,700 mg/Kg respectively No MTBE was identified and only 0 050 mg/Kg toluene
was identified in sample OX-1, OX-2 Complete laboratory reports are included in
Attachment A
If you have questions or comments, please call me at (916) 444-0123
Sincerely,
BROWN)1ND
CALDWELL
Tina M Bauer
Project Manager
TMB jw
cc Mr Terry Tardlti,T&T Truckmg
BCSACol\P\16000\16271\BHWPdoc
