Mr Ronald Rowe
March 4, 1998
Page 3
BC proposes to drill three borings for the collection of groundwater samples Soil samples
_,*ay be collected if field instrumentation indicates that petroleum hydrocarbons are present in
soil at elevated concentrations Three proposed well locations are located north, east, and
south of the former underground storage tank excavation for the purpose of defining the
upgradient, crossgradient, and downgradient direction of groundwater flow It is assumed the
groundwater flow direction is to the south Secondary locations are proposed for the
downgradient (MW-3) and crossgradient (MW-4) wells (Figure 1) If results from a field test
kit indicate that petroleum hydrocarbons are present in the HydroPunch® groundwater sample
from the primary downgradient location, then a secondary boring will be drilled further
downgradient of the primary location A groundwater monitoring well will be constructed in
the secondary location, and not in the primary location If the secondary location is utilized,
then the proposed secondary well location for MW-4 will be drilled, sampled, and converted
into a well
A Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP), dated January 8, 1998, has been prepared for this site
and will be followed and retained on-site duirng the field work performed by BC All
necessary permits will be acquired from the County, prior to start of work
Exhibit A describes Brown and Caldwell field procedures for monitoring well drilling,
• completion, and development, borehole drilling, soil sampling during drilling, sampling from
stockpiles, groundwater sampling, and sample handling
Borehole Drilling Three boreholes will be drilled using a truck-mountea drilling ng
equipped with hollow stern augers to approximately 85 feet bgs or 15 feet below the water
table Based on results of a field test kit for petroleum hydrocarbons, a fourth borehole may
be drilled The fourth boring will extend to similar depths as the other three borings
Borehole cuttings will be placed temporarily on plastic and stockpiled
Soil Sampling Three bonngs will be continuously cored for lithology identification to the
total depth of each boring Soil core samples will be monitored for organic vapors using a
photoionization detector (PID) If PID readings indicate elevated concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons, then soil samples may be retained for laboratory analysis If a fourth boring is
necessary, then soil will be sampled every 5 feet for lithology and possible laboratory
analysis
Soil samples, if collected, will be analyzed for the presence to total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPH-G), and benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and total xylenes (BTEX) using
Use or disclosure of data continued on this sheet is subject to the restriction specified at the beginning of this
document
• MELIGW62711WRKPLN DOC
