1 <br />' Mr Michael Infurna <br /> July 14, 2005 <br />' Page 2 <br />' In air spargmg, pressurized air is injected into the saturated water-bearing zone of <br /> an aquifer Air spargmg as a site remediation technology serves to volatilize <br /> contaminants from the liquid to vapor phase, and provide oxygen (O� for biologic <br />' activity and microorganism growth The purpose of this pilot test is to determine <br /> the ROI for AS and the concentration of 02 in groundwater in surrounding wells <br />' Phase I <br /> The purpose of the new extraction well VEW-1 will be to extract petroleum <br /> t hydrocarbons from the soil and groundwater in the source area of the <br /> groundwater plume, thereby reducing constituent mass The purpose of the new <br /> extraction well VEW-2 will be to determine the ROI from VEW-1 The results <br />' will be used in the design of an interim remediation measure, as part of a final <br /> remediation plan <br />' To accomplish these objectives, the following tasks will be completed <br /> • Advance a 12 1/4-mch diameter hollow stem auger boring for VEW-1 to a <br /> depth of approximately 100 feet (ft) below ground surface (bgs), approximately <br /> 10 ft east of MW-1 as shown on Figure 2, <br />' • Advance an 8-inch diameter hollow stem auger boring for VEW-2 to a depth <br /> of 60 ft bgs, approximately 20 ft southeast of VEW-1 as shown on <br /> Figure 2, <br />' . Place a 6-inch diameter schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) casing with <br /> 0 020-inch slot screen in VEW-1 and a 3-mch diameter schedule 40 PVC <br />' casing with 0 020-inch slot screen well in VEW-2 with construction details as <br /> shown in Table 1 <br /> • Place cuttings into Department of Transportation (DOT) approved 55-gallon <br />' drums or a lined roll-off container, <br /> • Develop the portion of well VEW-1 in groundwater, <br />' a Survey the well locations using a licensed land surveyor, and <br /> lk i <br />' • Characterize and coordinate disposal of investigation derived waste <br /> 1 <br /> 1'\28000\128253 l&1 1 rucking 5VL\Wort.Plan tiic doc <br />
