Hwy. 99
Manteca, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed the
"Limited Subsurface Investigation Work Plan" dated August 5, 1991, and quarterly reports dated April 18,
1991, and June 4, 1991, prepared by Aegis Environmental, Inc. for the above site.
The gradient for this site has been primarily to the northeast. Groundwater contaminant levels in
monitoring wells three and four continue to be the highest at this site. In May, 1991,PHS/EHD requested
a work plan for additional monitoring wells to define zero lines for soil and groundwater contamination.
If work at this time is going to be limited to the installation of one monitoring well and a hydropunch, the
placement of the well and hydropunch should be in a downgradient position. The distance between
monitoring wells six and seven is approximately 200 feet. A monitoring well between these two wells would
detect movement of the plume of groundwater contamination in that direction. Information gained from
the hydropunch can be used to investigate the placement of monitoring wells but the results cannot be
confirmed by additional sampling so zero lines cannot be defined with it's use. The proposed location for
monitoring well nine and the hydropunch as shown on Figure 2 of the work pian are up-gradient of the
plume of groundwater contamination. They would provide additional information about the site but
placement of monitoring wells in downgradient positions would be more appropriate.
Installation of the monitoring well and hydropunch can proceed when the application for the permit and
$89.00 fee has been received and been approved by this office.
If you have any questions, contact Margaret Lagorio, Senior REHS, of my staff at (209)468-3449.
Jogi Khanna ,D., M.P.H.
Health ce -
Laurie A.
