In pursuit of site closure we recommend the folloving
modifications to the proposed work plan:
1. Install a fourth monitoring well east of .the tank field at the
approximate location shown in figure 1 (enclosed) . This should enable
an accurate calculation of the groundwater gradient and flowdirection,
and give an indication of background hydrocarbon concentrations .i.n soil--. . .
and ground water at your site; and
2. From each borehole, soil samples are to be collected every five feet or
change in lithology, and we recommend .,that all soil samples collected
from 15 feet below the surface down to the extent of the borehole-be' - _.--
- submitted for laboratory analysis. ' The upper two samples (collected at
five and ten feet below the surface) are to be preserved in case
laboratory analysis is requested. Your consultant proposes screening
soil samples in the field using a photoionization detector tosel'ect
soil samples for laboratory analysis. This is generally acceptable, but
in pursuit of site closure a detailed characterization of the soil
-- -beneath -your si*..e'.-i-s-.ia.rr--nted, ► -,.•--. P
Please address these two issues in an addendum to this.work
_plan and submit
to us and the San Joaquin Local' Health District (SJLHD) 6y 17 MarchI1989. ,
We have the following comments regarding the contents of the Preliminary
Report:
1. The Preliminary Report is to be completed following the format outlined
in Appendix A of the Tri-Regional Guidelines (enclosed) ;
2. Include pertinent information on the old tanks (pre-October 1983)°, such
as number, size, - products stored, and ,tank locations. Were t! e-old
pipelines replaced when the neW tahks. were installed?
