PROBLEM ASSESSMENT REPORT <br /> 14800 West Frontage Road Manteca California <br />' Based on the results of soil classification and PID screening, two soil <br /> samples were selected, secured in a sealed ice chest using appropriate <br /> preservation methods, and submitted to a state-certified laboratory for <br /> Ianalysis <br /> • Selected soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons <br /> (TPH), as gasoline, and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes <br /> (BTEX) <br /> IDrill cuttings were placed on, and covered by, plastic sheeting <br /> • The top-of-casing elevation for MW-9 was surveyed, with reference to <br />' existing well MW-1, under the direction of a professional geologist <br /> On November 21, 1991, development of MW-9 was completed <br /> I • Wells MW-1 through MW-9 were purged of approximately three well casing <br /> volumes prior to sampling on April 20, 1992 Water samples were collected <br /> using disposable bailers, secured in a sealed ice chest using appropriate <br /> preservation methods, and submitted to a state-certified laboratory for <br /> analysis of TPH, as gasoline, and BTEX Water level and quality data were <br /> recorded for each well Purged water was temporarily stored on site in U S <br /> Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved 55-gallon drums <br /> 20 BACKGROUND <br /> 2 1 Site Description <br /> The site is located on the west side of State Highway 99 in northern Manteca, San <br /> Joaquin County, California (Figure 1) The property was purchased from Exxon <br /> Company, U S A (Exxon), approximately 13 years ago by Moore Petroleum Moore <br /> I Petroleum leases the site to Mr Frank Guinta, Sr , who operates it as a retail gasoline <br /> station and convenience store Structures on site include two dispenser islands, covered <br /> by a common canopy, and a convenience store Currently operating are two 10,000- <br /> gallon underground storage tanks (UST), containing Exxon supreme-unleaded and <br /> i regular-unleaded, and one 8,000-gallon UST, containing Exxon plus-unleaded Prior to <br /> December 1991, the 8,000-gallon UST contained regular-leaded gasoline (Table 1) <br /> IThe site is located approximately 40 feet above mean sea level Topographic relief at the <br /> site is minimal, the existing surface of the site is essentially flat-lying with a paved surface <br /> around the station facilities <br /> 90 097A PAR -2 <br />
