Fourth Quarter 1996 Groundwater Monitoring&Remediation Status Report --
, Moore Petroleum, 14800 W Frontage Rd,Manteca,CA
January 23, 1997
Page 2
GROUNDWATER MONITOR]NG -
Groundwater Levels
On November 27, 1996, Apex personnel collected groundwater-level measurements from
,monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-9 (Figure 2) All groundwater elevations were measured to
,the, nearest 0 01 foot, referenced to the surveyed top-of-casing elevations and conducted
according to the Apex Standard Operating Procedures(SOP)included as Appendix A
Groundwater level measurements collected since April 1992 are summarized in Table 1 Figure 3
is a potentiometnc surface map of the shallow water-bearing zone on November 27, 1996
,Groundwater Sampling and Anal is
Ou November 27, 1996, Apex personnel collected groundwater samples from monitoring wells
MW-I through MW-9 The station's domestic well(DM-1)was unaccessible at this time and
was sampled on December 17, 1996 All samples were submitted, under chain-of-custody, to
Sparger Technology, Inc , of Sacramento, California, a state-certified analytical laboratory All
samples were collected according to the Apex SOP included in Appendix A The groundwater
samples from the nine monitoring wells and the domestic well(DM-1)were analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH), as gasoline, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes
(BTEX)by EPA Method 8020/8015 Groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells
MW-1 through MW-5 and the domestic well were analyzed for 1,2 Dichloroethane (EDC)by
EPA Method 601 Groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-4
and DM-1 were analyzed for TPH, as diesel, by EPA Method 8015 Modified The groundwater
samples collected from MW-1, MW-5, MW-7 and MW-9 were analyzed for methyl-tert-butyl-
ether(MTBE)by EPA Method 8020 Analyses were chosen as per San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division direction which is included as Appendix B
The results of this sampling event is summarized in Table 2 The most recent laboratory analytical
reports and cham-o£custody forms are included in Appendix C
Vapor Extraction Remediation System Status
In early 1995, Emcon installed a soil vapor extraction system consisting of a Remediation Service,
Int'1 Spray Aeration Vapor Extraction (S A V E ) system at the subject site The vapor extraction
system was installed per San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District (SJVUAPCD)
,permit conditions The vapor extraction system consists of an internal combustion engine with
catalytic converters mounted on the exhaust pipe On November 27, 1996, Moore Petroleum
received a letter from San Joaqum County Environmental Health Division giving their approval to
shutdown the vapor extraction system due to low hydrocarbon extraction rates This letter is
included at Appendix B
