25 February 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1232
4.2. SOIL SAMPLING PROCEDURES
Soil borings will be sampled at specified depths using a 1.5-inch Geoprobe soil sampling assembly
loaded with four six-inch brass sleeves. Upon sample retrieval, the ends of the second sleeve will
be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Appropriately sealed and labeled
samples will be placed in a chilled container under ice and transported under chain of custody
procedure to a DHS-certified laboratory. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the boring
designation, time, date and sampler's initials.
4.3. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
Prior to use,all sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water
after being washed with a solution of Alconox and water.
4.4. BORING ABANDONMENT
Each boring, if required, will be backfilled with cement grout to form a seal to 2 feet below surface
grade and covered with native soil to surface grade.
4.5. DOMESTIC WELL SAMPLING
The on-site domestic well will be sampled after decontamination of the sampling port and purging
water from the holding tank until the well pump is activated, at which time a sample will be
collected and analyzed for the constituents listed in Section 3.4.. Ground water samples will be
collected into laboratory supplied containers. Ground water samples will be collected into 40-m1
VOA vials containing 0.5 ml hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative and into one-liter amber
bottles. Following collection the samples will be appropriately labeled and placed on ice and kept
in a cooler until delivered to the laboratory for analysis. Chain-of-custody protocols will be used to
document sample custody transfer from the field to the analytical laboratory. A chain-of-custody
form will accompany the samples.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
