To: All maintenance personnel
From: Jeff ong 1/13/97
cc: Bob Hancock, Bill Mortola, Bob Cartwright
Subject: HAZARDOUS MATERIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Based on an inspection 12/6/96 by the County Health Department, Hazardous Materials Division,
we will need to form lize all training in hazardous materials training. There is nothing new, the
training will involve general handling procedures which are suppose to be followed at present.
Any specific handling of hazardous material under emergency conditions involving acutely
hazardous materials, chlorine, ammonia, S02 would require specific training and the involvement
of outside regulatory agencies.
The present training done at the plant for these instances are as follows:
Personnel Job Title 40 hour 1 st responder Incident
Command
Bob Hancock Prod. There is also a 8 hour refresher required each year for
the p ple who have completed the 40 hour training. This training is not
neces ary in handling"hazardous materials" which do not pose a threat and are a
part of everyday work handling to a degree, example: used oil is classified as
hazardous waste but is handled readily by mechanics. However, training is
requir d on how we handle the used oil, oil filters, used coolant and sorbent pads,
where we dispose of them, and how to identify the proper containers being used
for disposal.
