Mr. Bud den Ouden - 2 - 22 October 2004
Monitoring Well Work Plan
The investigation associated with the underground fuel tanks shows that the groundwater gradient is
predominately northwesterly. The Work Plan proposes four monitoring wells downgradient of the bulk
fertilizer storage area, the liquid batch plant, wash rack, and containment ponds. In a 15 October 2004
telephone conversation with Mr. Little, we agreed to shift the positions of some of the proposed
monitoring well locations. The primary change was to relocate the northernmost monitoring well to the
southern(upgradient)property boundary. A revised site map illustrating these positions is attached.
The Work Plan proposes to obtain quarterly samples from these four new monitoring wells and analyze
them for nitrate, ammonium, and pH. Ripon Farm Service should also analyze water samples from
existing MW-5 for these constituents, and additionally analyze water from the four new monitoring
wells for other products that may have been handled in bulk quantities over the facility's history.
We concur with the Work Plan provided Ripon Farm Service includes the following analyses in its
groundwater monitoring suite:
• Analyze groundwater from existing 1VfW-5 for nitrate, ammonium and pH.
• Analyze groundwater from the four new monitoring wells for at least two.quarters for the following
compounds: volatile organic compounds by EPA Method 8260B., chlorinated herbicides by EPA
Method 8151, and organophosphate compounds by EPA Method 8141.
In our 15 October 2004 telephone conversation, Mr. Little stated that he could commence with the
monitoring well installation by the end of November and would provide a Monitoring Well Installation
Report 60 days thereafter. This report should include a site plan that shows the on-site septic tank and
leach field, the driller's log for your on-site water supply well, monitoring well boring logs and
construction details, water quality data, field records, the laboratory analytical data report, and other
items listed in the attached Items to be Included in a Site Assessment Report.
Thank you for providing this Work Plan and by 28 January 2005,provide the Monitoring Well
Installation eport. If you have any questions, you may contact me at(916) 464-4680.
AM TERRELL
Private Sites Cleanup Unit
Enclosures (2)
cc: Mr. Matt Machado, City of Ripon, Ripon(1 encl.)
Ms. Adrienne Ellsaesser, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Dept., Stockton (1 encl.)
Mr. Joseph Spano, DHS Drinking Water Program, Stockton(1 encl.)
Mr. Allen Fetters, Stockton (1 encl.)
Ms. Jeanne Zolezzi,Herum Crabtree Brown, Stockton (1 encl.)
Mr. William Little, Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc., Stockton (2 encl.)
